Barbaros

Barbaros is located 10 km away from Süleymanpaşa and it is one of the oldest settlements of Süleymanpaşa municipality. The name of Bizanthe, which was a small coastal city in ancient times, was later changed to Panion and Panidos, and today it has become Barbaros. The ancient settlement area is under the new town settlement today. It is possible to detect traces of cultural assets in the cemetery and mines on the coast of Barbaros Town. The first artifacts brought to the Tekirdag Museum from Barbaros Town, BC. They are Greek inions from the 4th century. In the south of the cemetery in the west of the town, the existence of a church dating to the 13th century was documented as a result of the excavations carried out in 2006. In addition, the westward sections of the walls seen in the coastal part were found during the excavations. As a result of the studies, the spread areas of the ancient city of Bizanthe were determined in the Late Roman and Byzantine periods.

Nowadays, Barbaros is a small fishing town,  and its population is  about 5,000. Agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing are important livelihoods in the region. In addition, Asyaport Port, which was put into service in 2015 and is among the largest ports in Europe, has provided serious job opportunities to the region and has made the region one of the most important logistics centers of Turkey.

Barbaros, where population during summer increases because of summer vacationers, has beaches and sea that will make those who love the sea-sand-sun trio happy with its clean sea and fine sandy beach in summer. The King's Road, which is the subject of urban legends, extends along the Barbaros beach and ends at the Barbaros pier. King's Road, which also functions as a breakwater due to its structure extending parallel to the sea, provides a safe area for children to swim in the sea thanks to the shallow area it creates along the coast.
