It was built on 6 December 2007 in memory of Sultan Murat Hüdavendigar (Murat I). Murat Hüdavendigar, the son of Orhan Bey, was born in Bursa in 1326. Murat Hüdavendigar, together with his elder brother Gazi Süleyman Pasha, commanded the conquest of Tekirdağ and Thrace during his princedom. With the death of his brother in 1359, he became the head of the army in Rumelia and ascended the throne in 1360.
