The statue of Namık Kemal, who was born in Tekirdağ and devoted himself to high concepts such as homeland, nation, freedom and humanity, was built by the sculptor Nusret Suman in 1949, with the efforts of Cicioğlu, during the reign of former mayor Şevket Cicioğlu.
The statue, located in the center of Süleymanpaşa district, has become the symbol of the city. There are words of Namık Kemal on the pedestal of the statue.
