Rustempasha Complex


The mosque, covered bazaar, madrasah and library section of the complex still exist today. It is stated in various sources that the complex was once a caravanserai and a soup kitchen. Rüstempaşa Mosque, which has the most prominent place in the Rüstempaşa Complex, was built by Mimar Sinan on a hill overlooking the sea in 1553 by Rüstem Pasha, the son-in-law of Suleiman the Magnificent.
 
 
 
 
 
Some terms and their meanings;
 
Madrasa: It is thirty meters east of the mosque. When it was destroyed in 1880, a wooden school was built on it. This building, which was used as a high school and high school, was used as Cumhuriyet Primary School. (Only the foundation and wall remains can be seen today.)
 
Library: It is between the mosque and the madrasa. It is a domed structure with a square plan. A stove and chimney were added to the building and later it was used as a soup kitchen. The library in question has been restored and made convenient for use.
 
Hamam: It is right next to the madrasa. The bath, which was a domed structure in its original form, was covered with a wooden roof. Only a part of the stone and brick walls remained of the structure, which is in the form of a double bath, for women and men.
 
Rüstem Pasha Bazaar: There is a bazaar, the construction of which was completed in 1988, to the east of the Rüstempaşa Mosque. This bazaar, which belongs to the General Directorate of Foundations, consists of a total of 49 shops and its construction was started in 1986 by the Governor Dr. It was started by the Special Provincial Administration during the time of Süleyman Oğuz and was completed in 1988. It has an architecture that reflects the period characteristics of the complex.
